It’s a word we never want to see when in the process of moving house. It can make it difficult for selling a property and also when buying one due to the lengthy process. Not only does damp make moving house a longer process, it can also interfere with mortgage lenders as any damp problems have to be rectified before they lend out any kind of money, meaning the whole selling process has to come to a halt.
A 50/50 situation
If you want a quick sell, identifying and solving any damp issues would be the best option to take before your house even goes on the market. However, identifying and resolving damp isn’t as simple as 1, 2, 3. The damp would need to be identified, treated and have approval that it is sound. This can all take a bit of time so although it may give you a quicker sell when your house is on the market, it may take a while to actually put the house on the market in the first place.
You are able to put your house on the market with damp issues as well but remember that buyers could be put off by damp and may look elsewhere or will want to renegotiate the buying price.
